Total Defense Day 2019 in Hihs
It’s Total Defence Day in Holy Innocents’ High once again! It’s a time when we commemorate the day when Singapore fell to the Japanese. It’s also time to refresh our memory on what happened on that day and how to be prepared if there is going to be another ambush on Singapore.
This year’s celebration was truly exciting. It was quite the experience with all the scouts and cadets putting up a marching parade with external vendors that the school invited to enlighten us on what to do during terrorist attacks.
“My favourite part of the performance was definitely the marching parade put up by the scouts and cadets!”, Jayden Tan from 2 Humility exclaimed excitedly. “It was special as when we were back in primary school, there was never a marching show. It was also fun learning about things to do during terrorist attacks as it was quite interesting.”
Mr Singh, 34, an English teacher stated that, “Total Defence is critical for the younger generations so that they can safeguard Singapore’s sovereignty for the future. Hence, they need to learn some key pillars like psychological, social and military defence so that we can preserve older racial and religious harmony and not take them for granted.”
According to Leo Qi Xuan from 2 Humility, “It was very entertaining watching the external vendors putting on a skit to teach us about what happened during the fall of Singapore to the Japanese and how to be prepared if something like that ever happens again.”
Both Jayden and Qi Xuan agreed that this year’s Total Defence Day was both entertaining and interesting. Mr Singh also agrees that Total Defence Day is an important and critical day not only for adults but also for teenagers.
Qi Xuan quipped, “I would definitely share all the information with all my family and friends, enlightening them about Total Defence Day.” Jayden also added that, “Total Defence Day is a very important day to Singaporeans. It is also special to us Singaporeans as not all countries celebrate Total Defence Day.
In conclusion, on Total Defence Day in Hihs, not only is it fun and entertaining, it is also important to know the procedures if there would be any attacks in Singapore.
